| Description | Particular entries concern the attendance of Cecil and Harold at school at Great Malvern. Charlotte and Fred travel with them there on 23 April. 'We all liked what we saw of the school, except the schoolroom'. After leaving the boys at school, Charlotte stays on at Malvern Link, and then travels to Oxford, where she attends services at various Oxford colleges, and visits friends.
Charlotte continues to teach Mary at home, and to teach regular classes at the school. She visits parishioners, as well as occasionally playing at Evensong, helping with parish work, and carrying out household tasks. She advertises for servants positions in March, and mentions that 'Mrs Bond came to cook' on 15 February.
Health problems include frequent headaches, an 'inflammation in the throat' on 26 May which lasts for over a week, and Fred writes Charlotte's diary from 25 December until the end of the year, while she is suffering from a 'feverish cold' with a high temperature. The doctor prescribes frequent nourishment, no solid food, and poultices and diagnoses 'inflammation and congestion of one lung' on 29 December. A Mr Leibreich is consulted about the state of Cecil and Harold's eyes, and finds them 'much improved' on 7 August.
Other events include several visits to London and Charlotte shops in Oxford Street on 6 July. Fred, Charlotte and Mary visit Henley Regatta on 22 June. The boys return from school on 20 July, and go to several cricket matches. The family take a trip out to Culham on 31 August and a vacation to Folkestone in September. Activities include visiting the harbour and fish market, and sitting on the beach. Charlotte visits Canterbury cathedral on 24 September. Cecil and Harold return from school at Great Malvern on 14 December and Charlotte writes that Cecil is head of the school and has been awarded the IV form prize.
