DescriptionParticular entries include details about Charlotte's parish work, which Mary helps with. She sometimes carries out work on her mother's behalf when Charlotte is unwell. Mary helps with taking Charlotte's class at school, giving out stores, taking clothing club, arranging the altar flowers in church, and - on 17 October - amusing the Sunday school. Other parish events include a sale of work for the Lending Library on 22 January and Charlotte contines to be involved with choir practice.

Cecil has an interview with a Mr Bylor Johnson in London on 16 February and Charlotte writes on 4 March that he is to be articled to him at 50 Parliament Street. His career seems uncertain, however, as Charlotte discusses his future with him on 10 October and while visiting him in London speaks to him on 15 October about whether to accept a nomination to try for a clerkship in the House of Commons. Meanwhile, Sidney leaves Radley College and goes to Cattistock, Dorset on 24 September accompanied by Mary. Charlotte receives a letter from Harold's doctor on 15 November reporting that his recovery is complete, and he returns home on 20 December. On the last day of the year, Charlotte gives thanks for the restoration of Harold's health, for the work that has been found for Cecil and for the happy home opened to Sidney.

Charlotte reports frequent headaches and feeling generally unwell. She wakes struggling for breath on 25 July and Fred administers brandy, Salvolatile and strong soup. She goes with Cecil and Mary to a party at Greys Court on 20 July but Fred's feet are too painful for him to accompany them. Fred, Charlotte, Mary and Sidney go on holiday to Shorecliffe, near Folksetone in August and have some initial problems finding lodgings. Mary and Sidney bathe, and Charlotte sits on the beach, and returns by lift. She also has a bath chair. Fred goes to visit Dover castle on 13 August and they all go to the Lees to hear the 'Gordon Boys' play and sing on 15 August.
Fred goes to the Diocesan Conference on 14 November.

Reading matter includes 'Sacrifice of Education to Examination', 'The Roman Question', 'The Wilderness Way', 'Claims of Rome' and 'Revelations of the Risen Lord'.
