DescriptionParticular entries include details of Charlotte's day to day activities in London. She attends church services almost daily, and is also involved in regular hospital visiting at the Brompton Hospital on Wednesdays. She reads to the patients, and on 26 April 'sat in the garden with the patients'. She does not neglect her former parishioners at Harpsden, looking over clothes for distribution there on 2 February.

Mary lives with her mother, and appears to spend some time teaching. She attends teachers' meetings, and Charlotte goes with her 'to look up 2 of her pupils' homes' on 23 February. Mary also visits the school of cookery on 7 February, and visits Liverpool for a month in September and October.

Health problems are mentioned. As well as frequent headaches, Charlotte reports being in pain with eczema around her eyes on 27 January, and records the visit of Dr Coates to vaccinate Mary on 17 May.

Charlotte 'took probate of darling Fred's will to Cox' on 29 April and she and Mary stay with friends in the Henley area on 24 May, and visit Fred's grave. They also go to visit Sidney at Keble College, Oxford. Charlotte writes about his good report, and on 31 May expresses the wish that he might be a faithful priest in God's holy church. She questions him in Logic on 14 January and Church History on 30 September, when he is on vacation. Harold is trying for employment at the Scholastic Agency on 7 July which suggests that he may also be a teacher.

Leisure activities in London include a visit by Charlotte to the 'Indian Exhibition' on 19 January, to the South Kensington Museum on 13 April and to the Natural History Museum with Bennett on 13 June. Charlotte also goes for walks in Green Park and Battersea Park. Mary visits the Earls Court Exhibition with her uncle Brice on 3 June and goes with Bennett to see the Royal Presents on 24 July. Harold goes to Harpsden and, on 5 July, to Henley Regatta and Sidney goes to Lords to 'see the Australians play' on25 July.

The summer holiday is spent at Broadstairs, Kent in August, and the family go for walks on cliffs, visits to Ramsgate, and an outing to old Margate church. Mary and Sidney play lawn tennis. They travel from here to Brighton on 4 September and Charlotte 'went with Mary and Sid to see the Electric Light' on 18 September.
