DescriptionParticular entries describe details of Charlotte and her children's work. Mary is heavily involved in charitable and community work, attending work parties, working with St Paul's Committee, and teaching at Sunday school. Charlotte continues her hospital visiting, visits the 'Homes for Incurables' on 25 June and attends regular church services, often with other members of the family. Sidney finishes his degree at Oxford and Charlotte received a telegram on 12 July 'to say that he had taken a 3d class, which disappointed him'. He takes his BA degree on 23 October, and then goes for further training at Wells College.

Charlotte reports various health problems. Her back is so bad that she has to stay at home on 25 March, while she is 'sadly disabled' by cramp on 15 May. She is examined by Dr Phillipps on 24 June and he found 'distinct valvular mischief in the left ventricle-other organs right'. Notwithstanding her ill health, she marks her 60th birthday on 22 April. She also mentions the increasing ill health of her brother Dick on 19 September and reports his death on 20 November. She notes the anniversary of Harold's death 16 October.

Leisure activities include a visit to the Imperial Institute with Cecil and Sidney on 15 April , and to the Royal Academy on 22 May. Mary goes to hear 'King Arthur' at the Lyceum on 5 June. Charlotte visits Harpsden and Henley in late June and takes a holiday to the Yorkshire coast, near Bessingby, in August and September. The family visit the beach and quay, Sidney goes fishing, plays lawn tennis and goes bathing. They watch Aquatic sports on 22 August and see the life boat launched for practice on 27 August. Mary, Sidney and Bennett go to a performance of 'As You Like It', as an open air play, on 31 August.
