DescriptionParticular entries include accounts of Mary's teaching and charity work. She also visits hospitals and workshouses, and takes a choir. Charlotte writes that she 'walked with her choir boys to Cheyne Walk hospital' on 27 December. Charlotte herself continues to go hospital visiting at the Brompton hospital, until renovation work begins. She records her last visit 'before chan[ge]s' on 22 June. She visits Sidney to see him in his work as a priest at Haywards Heath on 23 April and reports that Cecil had an interview with Mr Mackenzie, who offered him temporary work on 22 February.

Charlotte records the death of her friend, Anna Maria Gordon, on 26 January of Influenza and the funeral takes place on 29 January. Charlotte visits Shiplake and Harpsden from 13 to 16 June where she spends time with old friends, and also goes to tend Fred's grave.

Leisure activities include a visit to Brighton 16 April where Charlotte saw the 'new Electric R[ailwa]y'. Cecil and Mary take Bennett to see 'The Little Minister' on 16 February and Mary goes to a Missionary Exhibition on 12 May. She also takes lessons to learn to ride a bicycle on 23 May. Cecil visits Radley for an 'Old Boys' match on 30 May. Charlotte buys three tickets to Boulogne on 3 August and makes the trip on 16 August where she visits the harbour, church and market place, 18 August, and the castle and cathedral on 19 August. Other activities include playing lawn tennis, bathing, and a visit to Calais on 5 September. They return to Folkestone on 10 September.
