DescriptionCharlotte spends her time reading, attending church, writing letters, and visiting family and friends. She also continues her hospital visiting. Mary also goes hospital visiting, but her health is poor. Dr Webb visits her about her throat on 10 January and she has her ears syringed on 17 June. She sees the doctor again for diarrhoea and indigestion on 3 October and has 'her sinus painted under cocaine' on 24 October. Dr Webb is also consulted for her loss of weight on 1 December. Charlotte also suffers from various health problems. She is in pain on 15 February and is treated by Mary with ginger tea. She writes that she 'was much tried by bladder ailment' on 14 March and Mary calls for Dr Bland. She reports suffering from severe gouty spasm on 11 April and complains about her 'feeble heart' frequently. She also continues to be treated for a prolapsed uterus.

Charlotte and Mary take a holiday in Eastbourne, beginning on 15 April. Mary takes sea baths, Charlotte goes out in a bath chair, and walks on the Lea terrace. They also have a summer holiday in Folkestone in August and September during which Charlotte takes a bath chair to Radnor Park on 11 August and pays visits to friends in the area. Leisure activities in London include a visit by Mary and Cecil to the 'Brahms and Palestrina music at Westminster Abbey, sung by the Bach choir', on 6 May. Mary also goes to the Military tournament on 2 June and Charlotte attends the Bishop of London's garden party on 19 June. Sidney is 40 on 10 April and Charlotte writes to him with 15 shillings for his mowing machine. Cecil, Ethel, Helen and Milicent visit for Christmas dinner and presents on 27 December.
