DescriptionIncludes particular references to Charlotte's visits to London. These include a trip to the House of Lords, 3 February, a walk in the Botanical Gardens, and a visit to the 'national galleries' in July. There are also entries detailing her six week European tour, undertaken with her father. The tour began in France and took her to Switzerland in September and October. Locations visited include Berne, Bale, Strasbourg and Paris.

Reading matter for the year included Froude, Wilbeforce's sermons, and a book about Madagascar. There is also reference to Charlotte's beginning to read 'Adam Bede' by George Eliot, 25 April.
