He recounts details of parish affairs and members of the congregation - a 'stormy vestry. Hodges' Protestant mania strong upon him', 14 April. Charlotte continues to take responsibility for the education of her children - lessons now include French. She also assists Fred in the composition of his sermons, and visits parishioners. The family holiday was taken in Brighton in August, and Charlotte writes of their visits to 'Lombards' to be photographed. Ailments include tooth ache, rectified by Charlotte's 'hands-on' approach - 'I finished pulling out my tooth', 23 August. Household affairs include the redecoration of the boudoir. There is also a reference to the death of Frederick Wilmot at the '?Ashanti war...he had volunteered'.
