DescriptionParticular entries include the birth of Charlotte's first grandchild. On 20 June, she hears 'from dearest Cecil of the safe arrival of their little daughter at 10.15 last night'. Charlotte sees her granddaughter for the first time on 1 July and records that Ethel 'looked well but weary'. Sidney churches Ethel on 15 July and baptises Cecil and Ethel's daughter, Helen Cecilia Mary. The baby 'behaved beautifully...much improved in looks'.

Charlotte gives out stores with Mary, and continues hospital visiting, and spends the rest of her time socialising with friends and family, reading, writing letters, and attending church.

Charlotte suffers from a gouty foot on 15 February and attacks of spasm. She also reports feeling pain in her right breast on 25 February. Mary has a mild attack of influenza on 18 January which was diagnosed by Dr Webb.

Charlotte takes a holiday in Folkestone beginning on 15 June with Mary and Sidney. They see the military band on the Leas on 16 June and go to Dover for the day on 22 June where they walk on the new pier. Charlotte also takes a holiday in Sheringham in August. Time is spent in walks along the coast, and by the cliffs, and she visits Cromer on 15 August, considering it 'a place worth visiting but not pleas[?ant] like Sheringham but a most splendid church'. She also visits West Runton on 16 August and sees the 'fine old village church'. She goes to Frome to visit Sidney on 5 September and then to Bristol to visit friends on 20 September. She also visits Harpsden on 19 October.

Reading matter includes 'Wilberforce on the Incarnation', 'Book on Portugal', 'B[isho]p Creighton's Life', 'Imperial Japan', 'Evidential Value' and 'Sadler on Dogma'.
