|These volumes contain signed minutes for meetings of the Chainmakers and Strikers Association. These minutes are typescript from 1947 onwards with the exception of the volume covering 1967 to 1980 which contains both typescript and manuscript minutes; minutes of meetings held before 1923 consistently appear as both draft and final versions.
Each volume contains minutes for meetings of the Executive Council. These appear to have been held roughly every month or sometimes every two months, but less often in the early years of the Association. Some volumes also contain minutes for Special Executive Council meetings which were convened on an ad hoc basis for specific reasons.
Each volume also contain minutes for Annual Meetings, from the first Annual Conference in 1892 to 1977. These meetings were initially held in July of each year, but most Annual Meetings from the late 1930s onwards took place in February or March. Minutes of Annual meetings typically consist of a list of the delegates present, a summary of the General Secretary's Address, a short summary of the year's activities, with reference to the annual report and accounts, details of the election of officers, including those who were to serve on the Executive Council.
Minutes of the half-yearly meetings of Factory Secretaries are also represented in the majority of these volumes of minutes.
Early volumes also include minutes for meetings of Council and General Council meetings. These seem to have taken place more frequently than the meetings of the Executive Council in this early period of the Association's history. Additional General meetings seem to have been convened on an ad hoc basis as specific problems arose for which an Association response was required.
