|Description||This material consists of three main sequences of volumes which all record details of the regular subscriptions paid by members of the Association. The sequences comprise individual members weekly contribution books; subscription lists and names of firms; classification books, and form a comprehensive financial record of the Association's income from membership subscriptions. |
Although all three sequences essentially record the same information, there are some differences in format.
Both the subscription lists and names of firms and the classification books appear to have been kept centrally, while the individual members contribution books are likely to have been kept by individual firms in which one member of the Association was responsible for the collection of contributions. In most cases this person was probably the factory secretary. Both these and the subscription lists and names of firms contain the names of individual members.
