DescriptionThis file is divided into four sections.
The first section contains material relating to the history of the Association and includes
/1: printed agenda for a Special Council meeting to be held 22 July 1901 at the 'Manchester Inn', Cradley Heath
/2 : printed address to members from Thomas Sitch regarding the resolution at a recent General Meeting to undertake a complete alteration of the Rules of the Association, and to appy for Affiliation with the Labour Party
/3: newspaper article entitled 'Historical Survey of the Chain Trade' and published in 'County Express' 13 February 1937, This contains an account of the address by Henry Woodhouse to the Stourbridge Rotary Club on the subject of the chain trade.
/4: typescript copy of 'Historical Survey of the Chain Trade', the address made by Henry Woodhouse. The typescript indicates that the address was written in 1936 and revised in 1943. This copy was made by Frederick Allen in 1948. Attached is a typescript letter dated 20 January 1951 written to A. Head, General Secretary of the Association, from Jeanette Jephcott regarding the loan of certain books and documents.
/5: typescript letter written by Frederick Allen and dated 1 January 1948 regarding the forthcoming Diamond Jubilee of the Association and including a copy of an address on the history of the chainmaking industry given by A.E Head to the members of the Literary Society of Grainger's Lane Methodist Church, Cradley Heath on 9 December 1938.
The second section contains material relating to the 1939 Jubilee celebrations and includes:
/6: printed notice giving details of the arrangements for the day of celebrations in Chester on 15 July
/7: newspaper article entitled 'Chainmakers hold Jubilee celebrations at Chester' and published in 'The County Express' on 22 July 1939
/8 published in unknown newspapers in July 1939
The third section contains material relating to the anniversary celebrations held in Portsmouth n 1949 and includes:
/9: newspaper articles published in 'The County Express' 23 July, the 'Express and Star' 16 July, and the 'Birmingham Mail' 11 July
The fourth section contains material relating to the 70th anniversary celebrations held at Old Hill in 1960 and include:
/10: newspaper articles reporting on the dinner and concert held to celebrate the anniversary at the Victoria Hotel, Old Hill, and published in 'The County Express' 26 November, and an unknown newspaper 3 December
/11: printed invitation cards for Edward Chatwin, and for H. Bloomer senior and H. Bloomer junior
/12: printed menus for the anniversary dinner
/13: replies to invitations from members and employers
/14: typescript letter from Vivian Bird, feature writer at the 'Sunday Mercury' to A. Head and dated 30 November regarding an appointment
/15: typescript note from the Secretary of the Association to Mr W. G. Bonner dated 17 December regarding copies of photographs from 'The County Express'
/16: typescript lists of the names of individual members from different firms receiving payments on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Association. A signature for each member appears next to the printed name.
