She apologises for not answering Harriet's last letter and asks about her plans for the summer. She goes on to discuss the health of her eldest daughter, of Lord Elgin, and of her second daughter Augusta. She also discusses mutual friends Mr Grant, and the Actons and asks about Harriet's activities at Versailles and mentions the imminent arrival of her son James.
