Administrative HistoryLittle is known about John Austin, apart from internal evidence gained from the diary. He was living in Greenock in 1855 where he worked in an office, but his family lived in Edinburgh, and he seems to have moved back there early in 1857. He married Eliza Lumsden Pratt in June 1858 in Edinburgh, and he records their courtship and marriage in the diary
