Description | Photocopy of a letter, dated 16 June, in which Leslie Scott (1869-1950), [MP], 20 Egerton Terrace [London], writes to Chamberlain after his becoming Prime Minister. Scott talks of having 'known in [his]... bones for many years past that [Chamberlain]... was bound to be the next P.M.' and that this has given him a sense of security 'a feeling that the country would be in the safest possible hands'. He recalls shared interests and times together during their long years of friendship, including talking to Chamberlain and his father on a visit to Highbury during the 1895 election.
Highbury was the Chamberlain family home in Birmingham. |
