Description | Photocopy of letter, dated 20 February, in which Chamberlain, 10 Downing Street [London], writes to Leslie, The R[ight] Hon[orable] Lord Justice Scott [1869-1950; KC, MP, KCMG], indicating that he does not yet think it necessary to make a final decision as to the best course to pursue with Russia. He thanks Sir Leslie for sending him a newspaper article by [Wladimir] D'Ormessson in 'Le Figaro' and wishes him a rapid recovery from his influenza.
To put this letter in its political context, Russia had invaded Finland in November 1939 and in the March after Chamberlain's letter, Finland was to surrender territory to Russia in return for peace. |
