Description | /1 Letter from G. B. Jeffery [1891-1957, mathematician and educationist] to Oliver Lodge, written from 365 Pinner Road, Harrow, Middlesex, dated 6 February 1921, with envelope. Jeffery explains that he has only just discovered that Nordstrom achieved similar results. He discusses his research in some detail, writing: 'From one point of view Nordstrom's and my result simply allows for the gravitation of the electrical field surrounding the electron. It is not quite so simple as this because the quantities defining the electric and gravitational fields are interrelated and each field modifies the other[...] The solution raises some difficult questions as to the relation of the old theory of electromagnetic mass to Einstein's Theory'. |
