DescriptionCorrespondence from Ernest O. Lodge, with note identifying the correspondent as Oliver Lodge's brother.

/1 Letter from Ernest O. Lodge to Oliver Lodge, written from Illinois Central Hospital, Jacksonville, dated 3 April 1885. Ernest acknowledges receipt of a pamphlet and encourages Oliver Lodge in his work. He asks whether Lodge's housemaid has any fear of the telephone and comments: 'I believe that in London you were looked upon as a sort of Dr Faustus on account of it'. He exchanges personal news.

/2 Letter from Ernest O. Lodge to Oliver Lodge, written from 13 Grierson Street, Lodge Lane, Liverpool, undated. Ernest disagrees with the views expressed in Oliver Lodge's pamphlet, writing that war is a benefit to society and peace a 'cruel curse to humanity'. He believes that liberal principles are leading European society into a state of 'horrible, monotonous state slavery' and that the only hope of salvation is a great war: '[...] the nations will throw away the lip-worship of peace & commercial success, & scientific or literary progress, & fall down & worship the successful soldier [...]'.

/3 Letter from Ernest O. Lodge to Oliver Lodge, written from 27 Bolton Road, St Johns Wood, dated 9 January 1910. With envelope. Ernest writes that the election is hurting theatrical business. He predicts that the current government will win the election with a reduced majority. He sends family news.
