Description/1 Copy of letter from Oliver Lodge to Walter Priestman, dated 16 February 1915. Lodge sends thanks for Doncaster's leaflet. He writes that he opposes aggressive war but believes it is a Christian duty to 'stand up for the weak and resist the oppressor'. He hopes that the Society of Friends will not uphold 'a totally impracticable inertness'.

/2 Letter from Walter Priestman to Oliver Lodge, written from 23 Highfield Road, Edgbaston, dated 19 February 1915. Priestman explains the Christian basis for his opposition to the war.

/3 Letter from Walter Priestman to Oliver Lodge, written from Belgrave House, Barmouth, dated 26 February 1915. Priestman thanks Lodge for sending Gilbert Murray's pamphlet. He argues against war, with reference to the Bible.

/4 Copy of letter from Oliver Lodge to Walter Priestman, written from Mariemont, Edgbaston, dated 1 March 1915. Lodge defends his position with regards to the war, stating: 'It is true that it is better to suffer injustice than to do it; but it is actually doing injustice not to resist'. He believes that some Friends are mistaken in their opposition to the war and 'excessive horror of death'.
