Description/1 Manuscript letter to Oliver Lodge from L. R. Wilberforce [Lionel Robert Wilberforce, physicist, 1861-1944], written from University Club, Liverpool, 26 February 1925. Wilberforce discusses the club's desire for a portrait of Lodge to be hung in the club house, but rejects the photograph Lodge had previously sent, as the committee desired something 'more characteristic' of him. Wilberforce asks if Lodge will sit for a portrait, which would then be hung in the club dining room.

/2 Copy of typescript letter from Oliver Lodge to Wilberforce, 7 March 1925. Lodge replies to Wilberforce about the commission of a painted portrait of him to be hung in the Liverpool university club house, writing that he would be happy to try and make time for the sittings whilst in London if the committee wished to proceed with the idea.

/3 Copy of typescript letter from Oliver Lodge to Wilberforce, 16 March 1925. Lodge conveys his hope that the expense of the portrait would not be too much for the Liverpool university committee, and suggests two artists - Oswald Birley and Luke Fildes as possible candidates for painting it.

/4 Manuscript letter to Oliver Lodge from L. R. Wilberforce, written from the George Holt Physics Laboratory at the University of Liverpool, 20 March 1925. Wilberforce thanks Lodge for his letter of 16 March and his suggestions of possible artists, but conveys that the committee are keen to commission William Rothenstein to paint the portrait. He requests that Lodge respond to this idea before the project goes ahead.

/5 Manuscript letter to Oliver Lodge from L. R. Wilberforce, written from the George Holt Physics Laboratory at the University of Liverpool, 8 November 1932. Wilberforce writes that he encloses [not enclosed] some information concerning a system of magnetic units started by Clausius, that was discussed in the Philosophical Magazine in 1882, and that he believes Lodge will be interested in.

/6 Copy of typescript letter from Oliver Lodge to Wilberforce, 9 November 1932. Lodge replies to Wilberforce about the proof of a Physcal Society paper that Wilberforce was writing, which had sent to Lodge. Lodge discusses the contents of the paper, which concerns magnetic fields, and asks for Wilberforce's response to his interpretations.
