Description/1 Manuscript letter from R. W. Wood [Robert Williams Wood, Physicist and inventor, 1868-1955] to Oliver Lodge, written from 515 State Street, Madison, Wisconsin, 23 February 1898. Wood writes that he has sent Lodge an example of a phase-reversal zone plate which he has recently made. He notes that using a similar plate with a telescope, he has been able to see several of the moon's craters, and believes Lodge will enjoy the gift.

/2 Manuscript letter from R. W. Wood to Oliver Lodge, written from the University Club, San Francisco, 13 July 1900. Wood thanks Lodge for his previous letter [in which it appears that Lodge has offered Wood a position of employment in England]. Wood is cautious about accepting a position abroad because of his family and the potential complications of applying for British citizenship, and asks Lodge for more information about the position, as well as some more time to consider.
