TitleLetter from Oliver Lodge to Dr [Charles] Reinhardt
Extent1 item
Date1912
DescriptionLetter written from Mariemont, Edgbaston dated 30 July. Lodge thanks Reinhardt for sending a copy of his book ['Mental Therapeutics; or, Faith, Medicine, and the Mind']. He asks whether he can send patients to Reinhardt for hypnotic treatment and describes a recent case. Lodge expresses his interest in testing 'any asserted cases of clairvoyance as distinct from telepathy' and discusses previous experiences and possible experiments. He writes that he is inclined to think clairvoyance possible but cannot claim 'as yet' to have proved it, and considers the impact that such proof would have on 'spiritistic' interpretations of phenomena. He comments on the similarity between Reinhardt's and Bergson's views and suggests that Reinhardt send Bergson a copy of his book. Lodge adds that he has sent a copy of Reinhardt's book to Mr J. Arthur Hill of Bradford.
