DescriptionLetter written from Mariemont, Edgbaston [Birmingham] in which he thanks Mrs Simon for a letter of sympathy following the death of his son [Raymond]. He writes 'the blow is a terrible one, & we have no details, beyond the fact that he was wounded & subsequently died. He was a fine lad, full of humour & life'. Letter is dated 23 September 1915

Administrative HistoryLodge and his wife had six sons and six daughters. Their youngest son, Raymond, was killed in the First World War. Lodge wrote a book about this event in 1916, in connection with his work on psychical research.
