| Administrative History | The French colony of Dahomey gained full independence from France in 1960. It took the name of Benin in 1975 as the People's Republic of Benin, a Marxist-Leninist state, which existed until abolished in 1989/1990. With a new constitution, the country's name was officially changed to the Republic of Benin in 1990. SCF did not run a country programme in Benin but may have given aid. |
