In September 1966 the Bechuanaland Protectorate became an independent republic as Botswana.
Between 1966 and 1967, £5,000 was spent on emergency relief in the form of milk and food for children suffering from the effects of severe drought. Small unidentified grants of £500-£1,000 were made between 1968 and 1986. In 1978 £1,000 was sent to the International Red Cross working in Zambia and Botswana because of the crisis caused by the number of refugees in the area. In 1987 and 1988 Save the Children gave small grants for child health and welfare programmes. |
