Cyprus was under British administration from 1878; formally annexed by Britain in 1914, it was a Crown Colony from 1925 to 1960. In 1960 it became independent, following several years of conflict in which the Greek Cypriot EOKA movement attempted to have the island incorporated with Greece (Enosis). In 1974 a Greek Cypriot coup attempted to instal a pro-Enosis government. The Turkish army invaded and occupied Northern Cyprus. The island has been divided ever since.

SCF made a grant to Cyprus in 1921. This seems to have been for the Armenian refugee children on the island, who had recently been evacuated from Cilicia in Turkey. In 1964, £2,000 was provided to aid children disturbed by the unrest in the island. In August, September and October 1974, SCF provided a doctor and two nurses who distributed over £12,000 of clothes, food and medical supplies. A small amount of relief aid and a larger amount of gifts in kind were provided in 1980.
