In 1960 Save the Children (SCF) sent £250 to Iran (formerly the state of Persia) for child victims of the earthquake in the Fars province. In 1962 SCF sent supplies and assistance following an earthquake in the Qazin area. Following an earthquake in eastern Iran in August 1968, SCF sent £2,500 and emergency supplies. This was followed by a further £40,000 after a DEC appeal. SCF provided further earthquake relief in April 1972 and in 1977.

From the 1970s-1990s several million Kurdish refugees arrived in Iran as a result of the Kurdish-Turkish conflict (1978- ), the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988), the first Gulf War (1990-1991) and subsequent rebellions. SCF provided support for Iraqi Kurdish and Iraqi Shia refugees in Iran, principally in the form of food and supplies procurement and health care provision.
