SCF's involvement in Israel was primarily in the form of financial assistance provided to Children and Youth Aliyah, a Jewish organisation founded in 1934 to support the children of Jewish immigrants and refugees settling in Israel. SCF began sending grants to the organisation in 1948, using proceeds from the 'Penny-a-Week' appeal. The grants contributed towards the running of youth centres for Jewish children in Israel. Around 1989 SCF ended its connection with Children and Youth Aliyah. SCF made grants to other projects and organisations in Israel including equipment for the children's ward at St John Ophthalmic Hospital and a midwifery training course in Gaza. |
