SCF began working in Lao PDR in 1972 to support the children of Laos in collaboration with the Lao Government. In response to the large-scale displacement creatd by US bombing raids, SCF UK provided assistance to refugees in Luang Prabang. Following the establishment of the Lao PDR in 1975, SCF UK continued its activities providing material assistance and relief. An SCF UK office was set up in Vientiane in 1986 and since then work was concentrated in four main areas: education, health and rural development, social protection of vulnerable children, and children in especially difficult circumstances (CEDC).
From 2005 SCF UK reduced its independent operation in countries where work could be carried on by other memebers of the SCF Alliance: project work was transferred to SCF Australia and Norway. |
