A former crown colony, Mauritius became an independent state within the Commonwealth in 1968, and a republic in 1992.
In March 1960, SCF sent £500 to the Mauritius Cyclone Fund. In 1964, SCF gave assistance through the UK National Freedom From Hunger Campaign to a project to train 14-year-old boys on the island of Rodrigues to become farmers. This opened on 16 July 1965. It seems to have been supported for another year. In 1980, SCF gave a grant to Mauritius for which no details were given. In 1981 a sponsorship programme started. Grants in the 1980s appear to have been related to mother and child health. |
