In February 1971 SCF started a child welfare programme in Oman at the invitation of the Sultan Qabus Bin Said. SCF opened its first child welfare clinics in Sohar, Soham, and Shinas, on the Batinah coast. SCF then opened clinics further inland, in Nizwa and the surrounding district. By 1976 SCF had established 13 child welfare clinics in the country, four of which had already been handed over to the government of Oman. SCF withdrew from Oman in 1979.
