Save the Children Fund (SCF) was initially invited by the government of Papua New Guinea to provide community health nursing services around Lae city in mid-1973. The SCF nutrition programme started in mid-1974 in the Eastern Highlands to replace the initial programme and the nutrition programme continued until 1992. In 1985 SCF assisted with health and nutrition projects with Irian Jaya refugees. Later projects include supporting the Expanded Programme on Immunization; and projects concerning disabilities and women's literacy. In 1993 the SCF programme in Papua New Guinea was handed over to SCF New Zealand. |
