Biographical note from donation letter: 'Edward Turner Clively, born around the 1890's. Born in Russia, father British Consul, married a Russian. He was taken prisoner during the revolution (1917) sent to Baku, where he was imprisoned for 9 months, and released and started working for SCF, because of his languages (Russian, Turkish & Greek). Returned to England to work for the Admiralty, as a civilian. Was sent back to Russia as a liaison officer because of his Russian background.'
