Hellier, Exon, Coll, Oxon, 1760'. Despite the later date of the manuscript, the contents bear close resemblance to the early 'Smith' manuscript in the British Library (RM18.b10). It contains none of the later alterations especially those made for Guadagni. Notably, the chorus 'Their sound is gone out' does not appear in the manuscript these words are set as the middle section of the aria 'How beautiful are feet'. The 'Smith' copy is the only other manuscript souyrce lacking this chorus. There is no evidence that the manuscript was used for performance. |
