| Description | Letter written from Colne. The whole town is against Parkinson who will not marry Sarah; he denies that he has caused her pregnancy, and says that he cannot as yet give the reason for his change of mind. Perhaps Mrs Wilkinson may go to London to learn dress making. Otherwise perhaps she would like the shop and part of the house in Windybank to carry on this craft, rather than be with Sarah and the baby. She sends news of various members of the family; and of Midley who has discovered that her former husband is dead, leaving another widow and children in Scotland. Sarah seems to be recovering from the shock of her cancelled wedding. |
