| Description | Unbroken sequence of Edgbaston Refectory committee minutes from June 1947 to 1 May 1969; with minutes of Edmund Street Refectories sub-committee minutes 27 March 1947 to 25 January 1951 and 13 May 1955 to 1 December 1955, and minutes of the Refectories committee 28 October 1930 to 25 November 1946 which managed the refectories at both Edgbaston and Edmund Street.
Although there are no earlier surviving minutes, it is clear that there had been a committee which managed the refectories before 1930. Similarly, though there are no minutes for meetings later than May 1969, there is no suggestion that the refectories committee was abolished.
Minutes of these committees constitute a useful source of information about the management of refectory facilities at both the Edmund Street and Edgbaston sites, and allow the researcher to study changing patterns of use and student and staff expectations over time, and to compare the functions fulfilled by the older refectories at Edmund Street and Edgbaston with those fulfilled by the new refectory built on the Edgbaston site which opened in 1962 |
