| Description | Minutes and associated papers of a committee likely to have been established following the work of the University Centre Committee and Guild of Students Joint Working Party (see UB/COM/113). It had the same terms of reference as the Joint Working Party, and was responsible for arranging consultation regarding the day to day management of the catering services in both the University Centre and Guild of Students building; for exercising general oversight, including the financial viability of the University centre and Union catering services and to recommend to the University Centre Committee and Guild of Students Union Services Committee any changes in prices, staff establishment and services provided; to deal with problems, complaints and comments arising from the running of the catering services in the University Centre and Union buildings; to liaise with the Social Joint Sub-Committee regarding the use of the existing facilities in the University Centre and Union buildings; to report and make recommendations to and to implement the agreed policy of the University Centre Committee and Union Services Committee
Membership consisted of two members nominated by the University Centre Committee; two members nominated by the Union Services Committee; two user representatives, one of Guild Catering and one of the University Centre; the managers of University Centre and the Guild Catering Services; the Secretary of University or nominee and the Permanent Secretary to Guild or nominee were to be in attendance, and one representative nominated by Staff House Committee and one representative nominated by Halls of Residence Committee were also invited to be in attendance
The minutes and associated papers contain information about catering activities across the University during the early and mid 1970s; details about the flow of customers through the building at lunchtimes and capacity for serving meals during these times; catering accounts and estimates for both University Centre catering and Union Services catering; prices; the provision of services during University vacations; the use of University Centre for social functions and the effects on social life in the Guild of Students if all main meals were served in the University Centre, and the possible closure of some catering facilities in University Centre as proposed in 1973 as part of a rationalisation of catering services in attempts to reduce the deficit in University Centre, and details about further reviews of services as part of wider efforts to make economies The Sub-Committee also sometimes received reports of the Finance and General Purposes Sub-Committee on Halls of Residence and Catering (see UB/COM/31 for minutes of this committee)
The last set of minutes in this sequence are for the meeting held on 31 January 1976. The sequence contains accounts covering the period to May 1976 so it is assumed that the committee continued to meet until at least this date, though no further minutes have been transferred to the University Archives
