TitleRecords of University of Birmingham Advisory Panel on Inter-Faculty Degree Courses
Extent1 volume
Date1972
DescriptionMinutes of a Sub-Committee of the Committee of Principals and Deans which was established to consider proposals for degree courses which involved subjects in two or more Faculties, in terms of academic desirability, feasibility and the resources required. The appointment of the Panel seems to have been prompted by a proposal for an Inter-Faculty degree course in International Studies, made jointly by Professor J. A. S. Grenville (Department of History) and Professor D. R. Wightman (Department of Economic History), and minutes of the first meeting, held on 15 May 1972, record details of discussion about the proposed content and resourcing of the course, and a copy of the proposal itself. There is also a copy of the Report of the Advisory Panel to the Committee of Principals and Deans setting out its recommendations

Further meetings were held on 20 June 1972 and 23 November 1972, and the minutes record continued discussion about the proposed course, including degree regulations, admission procedures, examination procedures, staffing requirements, planned growth in student numbers, and financial implications. Minutes of the meeting held on 23 November 1972 include a copy of the Report of the Sub-Panel on the Proposed New Undergraduate Inter-Faculty Degree in International Studies

Membership of the Panel consisted of professorial members of academic staff. The Registrar also attended the first two meetings. It is assumed that no further meetings of this Panel were held after November 1972
