DescriptionMinute books of the Audit committee, containing minutes of meetings from 19 November 1991 to 6 March 2012, and from 10 June 2014 to 14 March 2017. There are meeting papers but no minutes for the meeting held on 12 June 2012, and minutes but no meeting papers for meetings from 19 November 1991 to 9 May 1995. Minutes are signed from 1996. There are no minutes for the meeting held on 7 April 2009, though there are meeting papers, and there are no minutes for meetings held between March 2012 and June 2014

Membership of the committee consists of the Treasurer and lay members of University Council who are not members of the Strategy, Planning, and Resources committee. Meetings are also attended by the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar and Secretary, the Director of Finance, other University officers, and members of the external Auditors team. The committee usually met twice a year, in March or May and November, though a June meeting was added in the 2000s, and an additional meeting was added to the calendar in September from 2010 onwards to fit with the demands of the annual cycle of business.

The committee receives the annual accounts, and the report of the external Auditors. Minutes also include copies of Internal Audit reports, which focus on accounting, reporting, and internal control, and identify and deal with institutional risk. Minutes also contain reports on risk management, reports on investments and procurement, and papers on the University's insurance policies. There are reports on Disaster Recovery, and computer security, and there are papers considering security threats including, for example, the Y2000 issue. Minutes from 2009 onwards also contain copies of separate reports on the audit of the Guild of Students, and of companies set up by the University to manage different activities, including Alta Estate Services Ltd; Birmingham Research Park Ltd; Alta Innovations Ltd; Birmingham Research and Development Ltd; Alta Library Services Ltd; and Alta Cyclotron Services Ltd, which became Alta Birmingham China Ltd
