| Description | Minutes of a committee set up to administer and manage the Diamond Jubilee Appeal for funds to build halls of residence on the Vale site. The appeal marked the sixtieth anniversary of the foundation of the University of Birmingham and was launched by the Vice-Chancellor, Robert Aitken, in 1960. There are minutes of meetings of both the main Appeal Committee and the Appeal Executive Committee in 1960, together with papers discussing proofs of the appeal brochure, and promotional material including copies of the illustrated Diamond Jubilee Appeal for Halls of Residence brochure, a copy the appeal letter, and a copy of a note by the Vice-Chancellor entitled 'The Need for Halls of Residence in the University of Birmingham'. There are also weekly or monthly lists of donations and promises made by individual benefactors and by businesses and organisations. These cover the period from June 1960 to September 1961, but there is also a copy of the Diamond Jubilee Appeal for Halls of Residence Final List of Donations and Promises to 31 March 1962 with an accompanying letter dated May 1962 Also included with these papers is a copy of a report to the Senate of the committee appointed to recommend suitable names for halls of residence, staff house and other new buildings dated 11 July 1961
