| Description | Minutes, supporting papers, and correspondence of a committee appointed by Senate to consider suitable names for new halls of residence on the Vale site, and for new buildings on the Edgbaston campus
The papers include letters from individuals within the University suggesting names, and the minutes record the Committee's discussion of these suggestions. The Committee was originally asked to gather suggestions for names for Staff House and the Refectory as well as the new halls of residence, but these proposals were later discounted, and efforts concentrated on selecting names for the halls of residence on the Vale site and the postgraduate accommodation on the Prichatts Road site, though suggestions were made to name rooms within the Refectory building and to name a room in the University Library the Heslop Room. The papers include copies of the Committee's report to Senate in July 1961; minutes of a meeting of the Committee held in October 1961 to consider the Senate's suggestions in light of the July report; and a copy of the second report of the Committee to Senate in October 1961 following its reconsideration of recommendations made in its first report
Surviving records are not the authorised versions but were probably papers kept by the Registrar, and these include draft minutes and papers, and some committee correspondence |
