DescriptionMinutes of a committee established for the 2005-2006 academic session as a support group to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Quality and Students) to respond to changes in the external and University environments that potentially require changes to academic and student related regulations, below the level of Statute; to act as the route through which amendments to academic and student related regulations, below the level of Statute, are considered and approved; and to ensure that, in its consideration of amendments to regulations, proper account is taken of the effect on current and future students, portfolio issues and progress and assessment

The Group consulted with the Heads of Academic Programmes to ensure acceptance of proposals before submission to the Senate, and also considered follow-up action arising from Academic Board meetings. It provided input into the wider review of University legislation

Membership consisted of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Quality and Students); Vice-President (Education) of the Guild of Students; Academic Office and other staff involved in preparing and/or advising on regulation; members of academic staff where appropriate; and a representative from Legal Services where appropriate

The Group reported to the Senate and provided advice and reported to the Quality Assurance and Enhancement Committee (see UB/COM/15 for minutes), Portfolio Development Committee (see UB/COM/140 for minutes) and Campus Life Committee (see UB/COM/139 for minutes) on regulations and on general issues

Minutes contain discussion of proposed amendments to legislation governing academic regulations, particularly in relation to examinations and degree programmes; draft codes of practice, and papers concerning major modifications to degree programmes. There are also copies of draft sets of regulations governing discipline in student accommodation and a code of practice for student development and support in Schools included with Senate papers for a meeting of Senate held in November 2006
