DescriptionSigned minutes of the committee appointed by University Council to consider the necessary alterations to the constitution of the University involving changes to the Charter, Statutes, Ordinances, and Regulations, and which met between October 1924 and April 1932. Minutes of the Statute-Making committee appointed to amend the Statutes of the University in response to the Universities and Colleges, Temporary Provisions, Order 1939 to allow the University to award shortened wartime degrees, which met twice between 29 May 1940 and 5 March 1941, are also contained in the same minute book

Membership of the Charter Revision committee consisted of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, Principal, Joseph James, and the Deans of the Faculties of Science and Arts.

Minutes of the first meeting of the committee, on 13 October 1924, refer to a report presented by Oliver Lodge in 1919 when he resigned as Principal, recommending changes in the titles of senior officers, with the Principal to have the title Vice-Chancellor, and the officer known as the Vice-Chancellor to have the title Pro-Chancellor, with duties unchanged. The minutes also mention discussion about whether to retain the office of Vice-Principal.
The main business of the committee was to discuss the revision of the Charter and minutes include copies of Senate recommendations about the roles of officers and the assimilation of the Faculty of Medicine to the other Faculties; and the constitution and membership of the Senate. The minutes also contain details about recommendations of the Principals and Deans committee in relation to alterations to the Ordinances and Statutes and the constitution of Faculties. Minutes of the meeting held on 22 October 1925 include a copy of the report of the Charter Revision committee to Council.
Minutes of the meeting held on 22 January 1926 include copies of correspondence between Gilbert Barling and the clerk to the Privy Council concerning revisions to the Charter to combine the two offices of Vice-Chancellor and Principal. Minutes of the meeting held on 5 October 1926 include typed copy of detailed response from Privy Council to the proposed alterations, amendments, and additions to the Charter and Statutes, and a typed copy of a report by the Vice-Chancellor and Principal which details with the Privy Council's observations.
Minutes of the meeting held on 15 October 1928 include a copy of revised and annotated Ordinances pasted in. Further discussion of revisions to Ordinances 19 November 1928
No meetings were held in 1929.
Minutes of meeting 28 January 1930 includes printed copy of revised Regulations of Court of Governors, recommended by committee for approval. There were no meetings in 1931. At the final meeting of the committee, on 29 April 1932, the revised Regulations were forwarded to Council with the recommendation that they be approved and printed in pamphlet form.

Minutes of the Statute-Making committee contain discussion of the provision of the Emergency Statutes as they affect examinations and the award of degrees. Membership of this committee consisted of the Pro-Chancellor E. P. Beale, the Vice-Chancellor Raymond Priestley, members of University Council, and academic staff who were members of University Senate
