Extent1 volume
Date1980-1983
DescriptionMinutes of a committee which was established primarily for the management and support of the Television and Film Unit but which was also responsible for staffing matters of the Educational Counselling Unit and the Advisory Service on Teaching Methods. It was formed after the disbanding of the Educational Development Committee (see UB/COM/74) and took on some of this committee's role. Another new committee, the Educational Development Advisory Committee (see UB/COM/76), took on the Educational Development Committee's other functions

Membership of the committee consisted of a Pro-Vice-Chancellor (chair), nominees of the Faculty Boards; and the chairman and two other members of the Educational Development Advisory Committee nominated by that Committee. The Director and Producer of the Television and Film Unit also attended, and the Educational Counsellor and the Organising Tutor of the Advisory Service on Teaching Methods attended when necessary

The committee was responsible to the Senate for the management of the Television and Film Unit and its members; and for staffing matters concerned with those appointed to perform University-wide services in the Television and Film Unit, the Educational Counselling Unit and the Advisory Service on Teaching Methods and any other similar services which might be created. It was also responsible for instituting, in consultation with the appropriate Faculties, procedures and machinery for dealing with the administration of the University-wide services and their constituent staff.
The Committee set up a Television and Film Unit Users' Sub-Committee consisting of a chair, who was a member of the University Educational Services Committee, representatives of the staff of user departments and elected student representatives

Minutes include annual reports of Television and Film Unit; annual reports of Educational Counselling Unit; and reports of Computer Users' Sub-Committee. Minutes contain discussion about the finances of the Television and Film Unit and options for cutting costs in a climate of financial stringency in the early 1980s. There is also information about the teaching activities of members of the Television and Film Unit, reports of Television and Film Unit Users' Sub-Committee, and papers on income generation via the commercial activities of the Television and Film Unit, and the benefits and disadvantages from commercial work, as well as references to marketing existing programmes. The Committee received the report of the Educational Development Advisory Committee
Minutes of the meeting held on 22 January 1982 discuss the impact of the Academic Plan and potential cuts to the services listed under the heading of Educational Technology, Teaching and Counselling. Discussion of this continued in minutes of the meeting held on 12 November 1982, when plans for the future of the Television and Film Unit were considered

The final meeting of the Committee was held on 31 May 1983 and minutes of this meeting include information about the proposed re-distribution of the committee's responsibilities
