Description | Minutes of the Handbook sub-committee, later the Handbook and Programme sub-committee, are generally brief in content. Meetings discuss the format and distribution of the handbook, and the inclusion of information about university departments, student societies, facilities including the library, and plans or maps of university buildings. Publication of the Guild diary is also addressed. Minutes of the successor committee, the Programme committee, from 1931, also discuss the Guild programme of social events, particularly the planning of lecture series, engaging speakers and setting dates for dances and social events held at the newly opened Union building. The file described at UB/GUILD/D/1/4 includes papers relating to the production of the Guild Handbook before the First World War |
Administrative History | Originally the Handbooks committee, the name was changed in 1930 to the Programme committee. The committee was responsible for the publication of the Guild pocket diary issued each year, and for the Guild yearbook. It was officially disbanded in the 1944-1945 academic session after the replacement of the yearbook with the Guild diary. The yearbook had not been issued during the Second World War years |
