| Description | These volumes contain typescript reports of the majority of Guild committees in existence during the 1930s and 1940s compiled for presentation to Guild Council. Receipt of the reports is indicated in the minutes of Guild Council and the reports are summarised. Reference is made to the full reports, which are collated in these volumes. Reports of committees dating from the 1950s and 1960s are more often kept with the minutes of Guild Council, described at UB/GUILD/A/3
There are alphabetical indexes pasted at the front of each volume for each academic session, beginning in 1930-1931. The second volume largely contains committee reports from the 1940-1941 academic session onwards, although it also includes annual reports of the Secretary and Treasurer for the 1939-1940 session.
Both volumes contain Union committee accounts, and reports of the other committees sometimes include financial records, in addition to reports of the Treasurer, Secretary and Auditor. NUS reports on particular issues facing the student body in Britain are also included
The committee reports provide information about the activities of functioning committees for which no minute books survive. The second volume also contains material relating to the widespread effects of the Second World War on the running of the Guild, including details about ARP and other wartime restrictions on university life; the loss of staff and students to the armed services; war work carried out by students across the city, managed by the War Work committee; and economic shortages |
