DescriptionPapers consist of correspondence between members of the committee and other Guild officers concerning the organisation of the committee and its constitution, but mostly relating to campaigns with which the committee was involved. There is correspondence discussing campaigns against Shell in South Africa; boycott of Nestle products because of the company's alleged aggressive baby milk marketing in Africa; affiliation to the Anti Apartheid Movement and arrangements for Anti Apartheid campaigning activities; involvement in Amnesty International Urgent Action group; Guild security cover during events organised by the Iraqi students society; the activities of 'Class War' on campus; papers relating to a campaign by Amnesty International involving lobbying MPs to vote against proposals in the Criminal Justice Bill for the reintroduction of the death penalty in the UK for 'special categories of crimes' 1990. There are also copies of the NUS magazine and Manchester students union newspaper, January 1989; the newsletter of the Viraj Mendis Defence Campaign September 1988; a flyer against animal testing in University departments; NUS briefing on the economic and political situation in Namibia; the Friends of Moses Mayekiso [South African political prisoner and General Secretary of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa] newsletter and campaign circular letter
