DescriptionThis section contains records dating from the early period of the Guild of Undergraduates' existence, before the First World War. It is likely that the files were put together by the Guild officers who created the records, but it is possible that this arrangement is an artificial one, made after the papers were received into the University Archives. The files consist largely of correspondence between Guild officers and other students, and between Guild officers and University officials concerning a range of topics relating to the management and administration of Guild business, the provision of facilities for students, and the relationship of the Guild to the University. The correspondence provides an insight into the small scale nature of university administration during this period, when most members of the University community were known to one another. As well as correspondence, the files also contain associated administrative papers, including financial records, which relate to Guild business. Files can be divided into two sequences. The first consists of general correspondence files, arranged in roughly chronological order. The second comprises papers relating to specific areas of Guild work. Most papers date from between 1905 and 1911, with earlier papers focusing on the running of Guild magazines
