DescriptionThis section consists of incomplete sets of publications produced by and for student residents of Mason Hall and contains issues of the Freshers' magazine produced by the Junior Common Room committee for new students admitted to the hall at the start of each academic year from 1973 to 2005, and issues of the student magazine 'Masonry', produced by members of an editorial committee, between 1968 and 1970, with the addition of scattered issues dated 1986, 1993, and 1997

Although the sequences are not complete, the Freshers' magazines in particular are a useful source of information about life in hall and can be used to chart changing expectations about the facilities and social activities provided, and the kinds of social events which were popular in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. Issues from the 1980s also reveal attitudes about diet and hall catering, including the provision of vegetarian food and the types of food offered to and popular with students.

The surviving issues of 'Masonry' provide an additional perspective, and document certain aspects of life in hall, though they are only really useful for the 1968 to 1970 period, for which they provide information about student views about hall life and the structure of governance, as well as details of music concerts, dances, and other events organised for residents
