| Description | These records were kept by central University administration, particularly the Registry but also Senate and possibly other departments, to record information about students during the course of their studies, from matriculation and registration through to examination and graduation. Records were kept in different formats, comprising registers, lists, and record cards. They have been arranged by series according to their format
The registers contain matriculation records 1900 to 1961; a couple of registers of undergraduates created centrally 1902-1903 and 1964-1965; examination registers 1905 to 1956 and an overlapping but separate series used by Senate recording examination results 1947 to 1998, with examination results for Newman College 1999 and lists of external examiners 1998 to 2002; and graduation registers 1901 to 1987 and honorary graduates to 1999
The lists were kept by the Registrar but predominantly relate to students in the Faculty of Science. They consist of registration forms for students registered for courses in that Faculty between 1937 and 1967, but also for students registered for courses in the Faculty of Commerce and Social Science between 1937 and 1958. There are also lists for students registering for higher degrees in the Faculty of Science in the early 1940s and between 1948 and 1954, and a volume containing details of higher degree theses submitted by students in all Faculties between 1908 and 1909 and 1920 and 1937
